NIGHTLIFE

ROMANTIC NIGHTS

LATE LATE NIGHT

The Romantic Nights...or those a bit more peaceful

Any night of the week you can always find some where to escape to, in Estepona Port there is the ever growing numbers of secretly located restaurants, you just need to look above you and you can see them overhanging amongst the candlelit treetops. or you could go for a stroll down into the town, the endless winding roads of Estepona will led you to some beautiful restaurants, (see restaurants) full with gentle music but that still retain the Spanish atmosphere. the beaches at night, not so much on the weekends are practically deserted except for the odd man strumming on his guitar. a perfect way to end a perfect day, just lying back, relaxing, watching the sun set over the African mountains on the horizon.

The Late Late Nights

This is where I discovered why the Spanish have these genius siesta's, because they do not sleep till 4 or 5am in the morning so trust me, you need the energy....

ESTEPONA

When the sun sets over the Mediterranean horizon, in some parts of the urban Estepona centre a young atmosphere starts to flourish and then transfers itself to the port and, in the hours approaching dawn, ends up in the nearby discothèques. The same as on the rest of the Costa del Sol, the most lively nights are on Fridays, Saturdays and holidays. The young people generally tend to go out first to the "Calle Real" district of the town. Here we can find a wide variety of establishments where the night can begin, the drinks are cheap and the atmosphere is lively and loud.

  • Plato 68- BRAND NEW!!! A fantastic new nightclub in the centre of Estepona. Seemingly exclusive with its VIP and Ultra VIP areas, it is a fantastic night out. Something very unusually and elegantly over the top! Live Jazz musicians play along to a mixture of English & Spanish dance and popular music. A great time out....definately worth it! Entrance is a little steep at €20 roughly, but it is worth it to haggle... we managed to get in for free some how!

  • Melodie Cool - A disco/bar situated in the centre of Estepona, just behind the seafront on Calle Real, this bar is particularly popular with the young and trendy. Open until 3am Fridays and Saturdays. An essential pre-club venue

  • La Bulla - A bar on the Ave España (just east of Calle Terraza) has a dazzling display of neon lights. It is particularly cosy in winter, and air conditioned comfort in the summer.

  • Bar 97 - Calle Caridad. Select decoration and good music frequented by young people but not teenagers.

  • Milonga - Calle Caridad. A small disco, all types of modern music, open until 06.00am. Good ambience. No trainers.

  • Bar Tolones - Calle Real. Bar-terrace right in the centre. You can chill out with your drink and the "chill out music".

  • Kronen - Calle Real. Large terrace, good ambience and lots of different types of beer.

The "Calle Real" zone is where the greatest number of youngsters from Estepona and the surrounding areas gather between the hours of approximately 11.00 p.m and 2.00a.m., which is when most of the bars close and the journey to the port begins. We recommend you take a taxi to the port, which will cost you about €2. If you prefer it, you can walk along the promenade which ends very close to the port and takes approx. 15 minutes.

Estepona Port is, without doubt, the most lively nightspot in the area all through the week. Here we find a collection of disco-bars for all tastes. They normally open their doors around midnight until 4 o'clock in the morning. its easy to spot the general area of excitement in the port, the back street just under the ramp. here are some on the best bars with loud popular Spanish tracks blaring out and sweaty youngsters dancing the nights away. the drinks in the port are a fair bit more expensive than the town. Please bear in mind the bars seem to change every year! But there is always something to suit your needs!

Relevant from Summer 2007...

  • Reinaldo's - is a long-time favourite meeting place on the corner near the entrance to the marina. The clientele here tend to be regulars and a little         older.   The owner runs the local Harley Davidson club and the bikes are proudly parked outside on a Sunday morning. Happy hour 18.00 to 20.00.
  • UNKNown name??! - Whilst facing the ice cream parlour, turn left and head straight down. Here is a little hidden gem. Spanish run but very friendly, English music regularly played between Spanish tracks. Haggle on the drinks again... I cannot stress that enough anywhere in Spain! As a bonus there is also a pole and dance podium, so if your feeling brave try it!
  • Friends PUB -Can't remember the exact name but is suited amongst the restaurants. Serves pub style food in the early evening. Karaoke bar, English run with pool tables and the usual home comforts
  • Attico - Usually one of the less frenetic music venues here. Good ambience. All sort of music. Big terrace in the upper level of the Marina. Good views to the harbour.

  • Bar Ester is an English bar, with very reasonable drinks, English music and somewhere to sit when your feet get tired of all that dancing as they're open as long as they're customers can last
  • Palm Beech is the newest of the bars in the port and definitely one of the best 'British' places. Its situated on the higher level of the port, so not the most obvious places. It is run by a young British guy, but he is obviously still appealing to his main trade- the Spanish as that is the main choice of music. More of a dance atmosphere. Good happy hour though, 2 4 1 before 12am

When the doors close of all the bars it's time for the discothèques in the town, which reach their peak attendance between 4 o'clock and 7 o'clock in the morning. From the taxi rank in the port, one can take a taxi to one of the discothèques for approx. €2. In the town there are two discothèques which share the mass of people: Disco Teatro, which is situated in Calle Caridad behind Calle Real, and the discothèque NIAGARA in Avenida Juan Carlos.

A big hit is predictably the town of Marbella, with the ever growing popularity of the celebrity invested port of Porto Banus. although it turns out to be an expensive night, we would 100% recommend it for the sheer scope of disco-bars with either British hop-hop, 70's music, Spanish or English pop music or anything else you can think of. the whole general buzz and ambience of the area is bound to set you into a good mood for an amazing area full of beautiful and rich people. Some places that need to be mentioned are Scream and Goodfellas, both small and secluded disco bars in Banus but worth the visit, particularly Goodfellas for its 'cave' setting. About 10minute walk form the actual port is the club 'OH!', my visit here had my jaw hitting the floor, its amazingly picturesque layout was completely unexpected. the gardens full with beautiful plants, waterfalls and swimming pools, then the huge dance floors taking I believe around 4,000 people, about 10 bars, some amazing dancers. the whole look of the place is un-miss-able. the music is heavily based around Spanish popular music and the drinks are very expensive, a vodka and orange can end up costing €10.

Discothèque Olivia Valere- This is a very exclusive nightclub set in the strip between Marbella and Estepona, if you do manage to get in you will have a very easy chance to rub with the shoulders of many stars, yet I assure you, you will leave broke. costing around €6 just for a diet coke! it is undoubtedly a beautiful place full with a very sophisticated crowd so the bouncers can afford to be very picky about who they exactly let in.... so for the ladies... Gucci or Versace? Singers as big as Prince or Mike Jagger, tops models like Naomi, Kate or Emma, dancers of the stature of Joaquin Cortés or Antonio Canales, and even actors like the star Bruce Willis, pop star Britney Spears and David Beckham has even been spotted there. All this together with Vips rooms, assure the most exclusive of nights. www.oliviavalere.com

Ministry of Sound- Their Summer 2002 med tour was supposed to stop in Marbella yet they had forgotten to buy the drinking licence for the venue so I am told, perhaps by 2003 they will have sorted themselves out and if loud dance and house music is you scene we are sure you could be guaranteed a good night, just check the details with the ministry first. www.ministryofsound.co.uk
