SABINILLAS

.....the long sandy beach of Sabinillas

VIEW THE APARTMENTS

When Julius Caesar was governor of Spain between 63BC and 60 BC he was said to have stayed here in this very area and made frequent use of the Roman Sulphur Baths. Things have changed a little since then but Sabinillas is still a relatively unspoilt by progress. Sabinillas is primarily a fishing town where the boats used to be hauled up onto the beaches with their latest catch and sold to the highest bidder. It will come as no surprise then that this town is famous for it's wonderful fish restaurants.

The nearest Port is probably one of Costa del Sols best kept secrets the Puerto La Duquesa.  In the Port you will be spoilt for choice as there so many restaurants and  bars to choose from. There are Spanish, Italian, Indian and Chinese restaurants all serving excellent food at reasonable prices. You'll be able to sit and eat outside while you watch the boats gently sway in the water with the sun disappearing over the headland. After you have eaten perhaps a walk to look at the beautiful boats moored up for the night and maybe take a little nightcap at one of the bars. There are plenty of taxis to take you back to Sabinillas which is a 4 mins drive away. Other ports on the coast which are also a must visit are Estepona and Marina Bay in Gibraltar and if you want some very late night life try Puerto Banus up towards Marbella.

There is so much to do on this part of the coast if you are a keen diver or would just like to try then why not dive in Gibraltar. It's only 25 mins away and there are some interesting wrecks to see in the harbour entrance apart from collecting your duty frees on the way.

Old Street in Sabinillas....the sulphur pools...and Marina Bay in Gibraltar

Golf is another popular pastime and with over  38 International Courses to choose from, all within a short drive, you will be spoilt for choice.

Horse riding is available in the hills at the San Roque Equestrian Centre and the Valderrama Equestrian Centre just to mention two but there are over 20 different places and most provide Lessons for beginners upwards with BHSAI and escorted hacks in delightful countryside.

In the valley below Manilva close to the renowned Roman Oasis Restaurant, are the Roman Sulphur baths of Hediona. The high sulphur content is due to a sulphur spring which flows from a limestone outcrop above the valley. It attracted the attention of the Romans 200 years ago and an arched bathing complex was created of which four chambers still exist, although other adjacent water channels can be seen which suggest the complex was once much larger. During his period as governor of southern Spain between 63 and 60 BC no less a person than Julius Caesar is said to have cured himself of a skin infection by bathing here

Conveniently located this apartment is very close to a number of  tapas bars serving hams and cheese from the area and also lots of lovely restaurants serving delicious fresh sea food. Try the sea bass in salt. In the town you will find a good selection of small traditional shops and mini supermarkets where you can stock up on all your favourite foods or if you prefer there is a larger Mercadona just a short distance away.  The Sunday morning Sabinillas Rastro or Mercadillo (New and Old Markets) is one of the biggest on the coast and when the bullfighter Javier Conde dropped in for a bargain it only strengthened its reputation. Since its humble beginnings it has needed to change locations three times to accommodate its popularity.

We have local agents that look after the upkeep of the apartments. They are at hand to solve any utility problems that might suddenly arise, or lost keys! They also ensure that the apartment is clean before your holiday starts and after you leave they come and do the ‘final’ clearing up. The “communidad of properties” do have a number of rules that should be adhered to wherever possible, like towels over balconies (frowned upon), as this all helps to maintain the very high standard of the apartments. If you require a cleaner this can also be arranged.

Please also let us know if you require collection from the airport. Car hire quote and booking are also available.
